Keloids vs Hypertrophic Scars
Keloid is the result of an overgrowth of tissue at the site of a healed skin injury and can grow many times larger than that of the original scar. They can also range in color from pink to red. Although they usually occur at the site of an injury, keloids can also arise spontaneously. They can occur at the site of a piercings and even from something as simple as a pimple or scratch.
hypertrophic scar is a thick raised scar that's an abnormal response to wound healing. They more commonly occur in areas following skin trauma, burns or surgical incisions. They do not extend beyond the boundary of the original wound unlike keloids.
